LOCKS™ 101:

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
beachchairs_edited_edited_edited.jpg

CAN I GO SWIMMING WITH MY EXTENSIONS?

You can...

...but don't make it cute. Wet it down with clean water first, then spray it down with a leave-in conditioner. Be sure to wash your hair immediately after. Chlorine and salt-water are not your LOCKS' besties

CAN I STILL WEAR MY HAIR UP?

Absolutely!

Loose and low is going to be best. Try to avoid the high buns or the tight ponies that pull on your rows. If there's an occasion that calls for it, I'll happily show you how to get those extensions up and out of the way in the best way possible to avoid damage!

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY EXTENSIONS START TO FEEL DRY?

Typically this means you're skipping a step. Oops!

My #1 tip is to make your hair oil your best friend. Get used to putting it in wet and dry, ensuring you use my dry method so you don't get oily spots on your your hair. Oily spots = bad hair day/hard to style/now you feel like a greasy mess/no fun.

Also, brush your hair regularly, this will help keep it soft and distribute product more evenly!

DO I REALLY NEED TO USE SPECIAL SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER?

Yes you do.

Sulfates, parabens, proteins, and cheap suds will wreck your investment. It's a mistake that can't be reversed. Use only recommended or stylist-approved products!

WHAT IF I'M GOING ON VACATION?

Prep like you mean it!

Travel with silk accessories, and double-up on the proper travel sized hair products (the worst is running out and being in a bind). Braid your hair before flights, pools, and adventures. Pack a hat for that extra UV protection if you're going somewhere sunny. Most of all, don't forget that your hair shouldn't be something to stress over, just take care of it!

CAN I USE DRY SHAMPOO?

Only if it's extension-safe and applied at the scalp. Try to avoid spraying it directly onto the wefts. If the product isn't applied properly, or if the ingredients aren't safe for extensions, it can cause build-up, dry and brittle extensions, or break down the adhesive if wearing other methods like k-tips or tape-ins

I FORGOT TO RESCHEDULE, HOW DO I KNOW IT'S TIME FOR A MOVE-UP?

If you have fine hair...
...and it's been about 6-8 weeks, I wouldn't wait any longer. As the hair grows out, the weight of the extensions pulls harder on the hair it's attached to. Your fine hair shouldn't hold that weight any longer than this time frame.
If you have medium to thick hair...

...and it's been 8-10 weeks, check your schedule and let's find a time to get you in soon. Your hair can bare the weight a little bit longer, but not too long.
Tip:
If your beads feel loose, your hair tangles easily, or something just feels off, it's time.

CAN I USE PURPLE SHAMPOO?

Kind of - but with caution. Purple shampoo can be great for toning your natural hair, but can grab weird on your extensions (especially your lighter pieces). The way to do it? Lather it at your roots and let the rinse run over your extensions. They prefer a gentle cameo, not the starring role. Always follow it up with a good, hydrating mask or conditioner.

** Purple shampoo should be used in moderation. No more than 2-3x per month **

WHY DO MY EXTENSIONS FEEL ITCHY SOMETIMES?

Slight tension can be normal at first, but constant itching means something's up. Maybe product build-up, too-tight beads, or overdue maintenance. Let's fix it fast!

WHAT IF ONE OF MY WEFTS STARTS SLIPPING?

Don't panic and don't pull. Book a quick fix ASAP so we can resit it before it causes more stress to the surrounding hair.

DO I NEED TO CHANGE HOW I WORKOUT WITH EXTENSIONS?

Nope, but tie it back in a braid or a low pony. Avoid heavy sweat sitting on your wefts for too long and wash after heavy workouts.
Sweat buildup = scalp funk = no thanks!
